| Many of us can relate to the kind of life Zac Efron had growing up. Geeky, misunderstood, and not so good with the opposite sex. Now, that same shy school kid is one of the biggest sex symbols on earth. While many kids were playing sports, going to the malls, or playing video games, Zac was doing other things. "I don't remember Zac being popular at all," Joyce Hartwig, a secretary at Arroyo Grande High School, told a British newspaper. "He wasn't exactly the school heart-throb, he didn't really mingle with the other students because he was always at the theatre and you never saw him with girls. And he had individual tutoring, so he wasn't part of many lessons here either. He certainly wasn't viewed as anything special just because he wanted to be an actor." His parents first discovered his talent while on a two-week road trip, during which the 11-year-old spent most of his time singing. Two weeks after that his parents took him to auditions for a local production of the musical Gypsy. Without any acting or musical training he got the part. Soon after a drama teacher suggested that Zac audition for TV, and at 17 he was cast in the Disney hit High School Musical. The film made close to a billion dollars, making Zac a star. Fortunately, according to his parents, his success has not affected his attitude. "Zac was raised very grounded. He was busy here in town doing plays and all that," said his mother Starla Baskett. On Sunday he was seen enjoying a water taxi harbor cruise ride with girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, pal Ashley Tisdale and HSM3 director Kenny Ortega at Circular Quay Wharf in Sydney, Australia. Earlier in the day, Zac and Vanessa were seen in their CBD hotel room in Sydney. Later, the young stars dined at the Catalina restaurant on the harbor and then indulged in some retail therapy at Ksubi. | Just when we thought they were all done with their massive promotional tour, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ashley Tisdale were spotted on their way to Australia. The “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” hotties looked a bit worn out as they arrived at LAX International Airport in preparation to fly out friday night. Vanessa, Ashley, and Zac will be spending the next few days premiering the film as well as giving their Aussie fans plenty of opportunities to see them at various promotional appearances. Of her HSM co-stars, Miss Tisdale recently told FOX Pop Tarts how much she enjoys seeing their love for each other. "I'm a total romantic, I loved watching romantic comedies growing up like 'My Best Friend's Wedding' and so obviously, like, I just love watching Zac and Vanessa because it is such a sweet and romantic relationship so of course you're like, 'aww' whenever they kiss and everything. But just watching them on set is really awesome, it's beautiful."
